Ed Gray

GRAY Edward W.
Fortified by the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Edward W. Gray of Maumee passed quietly at the age of 82.

He was born September 14, 1925, in University City, MO, the third child of James F. Gray and Mary Ann (Boyle). Ed was known throughout his life for his generosity of spirit, his sense of humor and his deep faith. Ed was a graduate of McBride High School ('43) and Saint Louis University Law School ('49). He was also a WWII veteran serving as a radioman in the U.S. Army Air Force. He worked for 45 years as a sales representative for Brown Shoe Co. of Clayton, MO.

Aside from sending plays to Notre Dame football coaches, his favorite pastime was telling adventure stories to his grandchildren, Liz and Reilly Gray; Patricia, Katherine, Ginny and Michael Varraveto; Hannah and Caroline Gray; Ellen, Abby, Jack, Bridget and James Napoli; Frances, Margot and Audrey Barrera. He also took great pride in the accomplishments of his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother, Bro. James F. Gray, S.M. and infant daughter, Mary Immaculate Gray.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Virginia (Reilly); his brother, John B. (Theresa) Gray of Florissant, MO and his eight children, Ed (Jane) Gray of Grand Rapids, MI, Fr. James C. Gray of St. Louis, MO, Mary Virginia Gray of Toledo, OH, Steven (Nancy Grant) Gray of Winnetka, IL, Tish (Dominic) Varraveto of Leawood, KS, Jean (Chaz) Napoli of Shaker Heights, OH, Margaret Ellen Gray of Shaker Heights, OH, Kate (Patricio) Barrera of Manhattan Beach, CA and close family friend, Mary Galvin of Toledo, OH. Ed is also survived by his special friend, John Dowling of Maumee, OH.

Visitation will be held at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the mortuary followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joan of Arc Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Ed's name to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Joan of Arc Parish, Toledo or any charity of the donor's choice.
